Let me start off by saying that VPN Unlimited is the best VPN app I have used, and as of this writing, the lifetime subscription is on sale through Android Central for $29 ($470 off the normal price) It has just as much speed as it does security. It is cross-platform and runs well on Android, Windows, Mac, iOS, Windows Phone & Ubuntu Linux (After following this guide anyway) it even worked well when using WiFi calling over the VPN.

The one downfall in my first attempt to Install VPN Unlimited On Ubuntu 16.04 was that Ubuntu 16.04 no longer uses or has the libjsoncpp0_0.6.0~rc2 dependency required to install VPN Unlimited, so you must resolve this before trying to install it. The steps I have laid out below should have you up and running in no time. This install guide will be for the 64-bit packages, but you can use the 32-bit packages by following the same steps by downloading both 32-bit packages and modifying the commands for the package name changes.

First you will want to download the libjsoncpp0_0.6.0 dependency and VPN Unlimited from the links below.

libjsoncpp0_0.6.0 dependency – http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/amd64/libjsoncpp0/download

VPN Unlimited Ubuntu Packageshttps://www.vpnunlimitedapp.com/en/info/manuals/linux

Now that you have downloaded those, press Ctr-Alt-T on your keyboard to open the terminal.

Navigate to your downloads directory or wherever you downloaded  libjsoncpp0_0.6.0 to using the below command: (Remember to replace “yourusername” with whatever your username is.)

cd /home/yourusername/Downloads

Now install the libjsoncpp0_0.6.0 dependency with the following command:

sudo dpkg -i libjsoncpp0_0.6.0~rc2-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb

Once you have installed the libjsoncpp0_0.6.0 dependency, you are now ready to Install VPN Unlimited On Ubuntu 16.04. Use the following command to install. (Remember to update the package name in the command if the version number has changed since writing this guide.)

sudo dpkg -i vpn-unlimited_2.8.0_amd64.deb

Once you have that installed you should now add the Ubuntu Trusty repository so that you make sure you get security updates to the dependency if any are issued. Use the below command to add these.

sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu trusty main universe"

You can now close your terminal and open VPN Unlimited from the App Launcher

Thats it, enjoy your Install of VPN Unlimited On Ubuntu 16.04.
