This is the first book in the series Trials of Sarah Newby by Tim Vicary that I found for sale through BookBub. It follows the career of UK barrister Sarah Newby whose career is her main focus which leads to very strained relationships with her husband and kids. Her oldest son is accused or raping and murdering his girlfriend and she has to prove that he is innocent.

The courtroom scenes are so different from what the US is accustomed to and there were times that I thought that it seemed so backwards with no basis on evidence or fact. It’s eye opening to see how the judicial system works in other countries. What I liked about the story is that Vicary never comes outright and says the son is innocent. The story is based completely on Sarah’s conviction that her son would never do something so horrible and her determination to prove that in court. He plays off what every parent believes deep down, that their child is good.

I haven’t read the other books in the series yet, but look forward to seeing what happens next.
