Before Midnight – Book Review

This is the first book in the Blood Prince series by Jennifer Blackstream. I found this on sale through BookBub and quickly purchased the rest of the series  since I liked this one so much. There seem to be many writers,TV shows, movies etc that are taking classic fairy tales and reworking them from a different  angle or POV. Some are good – like Wicked by Gregory Maguire – while others are total flops. This book is a retelling of Cinderella that is so unique, combining it with paranormal/fantasy that makes it a new and exciting version.

Etienne is a prince, but is also a born werewolf that has lost his ability to shape shift into his wolf form and is slowly becoming a full human. Loupe is a loup garou, a human that was bitten by a werewolf and cursed to become one. Both have to keep their secret from coming out in order to survive. The basics of Cinderella, a wicked stepmother and stepsisters, are throughout the book and give you a small feeling of nostalgia/familiarity. There is a whirlwind romance, plenty of action and excitement and a great HEA. A good read for those that like paranormal, fantasy and romance novels.
