Going Through the Change – Book Review

change cover

This is the first book in the Menopausal Superhero series by Samantha Bryant. It’s currently available on Amazon.

I was expecting this book to be a comedy about women that were going through menopause. The title and cover all pointed to this being a comedy, so I was surprised and a little thrown off for the first couple of chapters since I kept waiting for a punchline that never came. After realizing how off the mark I was, it was easier to get into this book and the characters. The cast is a well rounded group that exemplifies how different women can be – loving, strong, career minded etc – they are all represented. While I liked some characters more than others, they are all very well developed and realistic despite their superhero powers.

After each woman gains her powers, they struggle with adjusting to a new life and try to find out what happened and why. Dr. Liu is an awesome villain and Helen is a character that you love to hate. Leonal/Linda, Jessica and Patricia make an unlikely group, but they each bring a strength that is greatly needed to find out what is going on and if this can be reversed.

This is a good and easy read that I was able to finish fairly quickly. I’m not sure if I liked it enough to continue reading the series, even though I did like the storyline and characters. Perhaps if I find some down time I’ll pick them up to see what happens to the ladies.
