This is the third book in The Giver quartet by Lois Lowry, and it follows Matty’s life in the Village. Unlike Jonas or Kira’s communities, Village is a utopian society that cares for the people that have been exiled for their flaws. Everyone is welcome and they all care for one another, until things begin to change. It’s very subtle and not many people notice it; but the Leader, the Seer and Matty do and they send Matty out to bring Kira to the Village before they close it off to all outsiders.
This is my favorite book in the series so far, even though it is so sad. Matty is a wonderful character and his story is easy and enjoyable to read. Like the previous two books, this was a short story that went by quickly. Since I was able to get it at a discounted price, I’m glad I bought it. I’ll have to wait to see if Son will go on sale so I can finish out the quartet.
